Divisione in sillabe

Ciao a tutti, ho un problema, il Tex mi ha fatto un errore nella divisione in sillabe. Sul PDF mi scrive: caratter-
istiche.

Ero quasi certa che fosse sbagliato, ma prima ho preferito chiedere conferma ad un amico professore di italiano
Prima che me lo chiediate, la formattazione che uso nel documento è

La cosa che mi spaventa, oltre a cercare una soluzione al problema "caratteristiche" è il fatto di dover ricontrollare la divisione in sillabe del documento completo; è diventato un problema di fiducia, che faccio non mi fido più e controllo e ricontrollo tutto?

Sarà un bug del pacchetto, quelle impostazioni dovrebbero in genere sillabare le parole secondo le regole italiane... Ti consiglio di fare un po' di prove con altre parole. Se scazza solo "caratteristiche", è un bug del pacchetto, e provvederai a sistemarlo a mano. Comunque dovresti avere la garanzia che quasi tutte le altre parole siano sillabate nel modo giusto, ed in ogni caso rileggere ciò che si è scritto è sempre una buona regola, a prescindere dall'affidabilità dei pacchetti.

A volte succedono problemi: a me aveva preso in antipatia una parola e la "castrava"

Cmq, come scritto nel manuale

LaTeX hyphenates words whenever necessary. If the hyphenation algorithm
does not find the correct hyphenation points, you can remedy the situation
by using the following commands to tell TEX about the exception.
The command
\hyphenation{word list}
causes the words listed in the argument to be hyphenated only at the points
marked by “-”. The argument of the command should only contain words
built from normal letters, or rather signs that are considered to be normal
letters by LaTeX. The hyphenation hints are stored for the language that
is active when the hyphenation command occurs. This means that if you
place a hyphenation command into the preamble of your document it will
influence the English language hyphenation. If you place the command
after the \begin{document} and you are using some package for national
language support like babel, then the hyphenation hints will be active in the
language activated through babel.
The example below will allow “hyphenation” to be hyphenated as well
as “Hyphenation”, and it prevents “FORTRAN”, “Fortran” and “fortran”
from being hyphenated at all. No special characters or symbols are allowed
in the argument.
Example:
\hyphenation{FORTRAN Hy-phen-a-tion}

la non possibilita' di mettere simboli speciali ti blocca le parole con l'accento.
in quel caso tocca mettere \- nella parola per dire dove sillabare

Ovviamente rileggo, è il minimo in generale, trattandosi di una tesi di laurea poi...

Semplicemente non sapevo come ovviare al problema, grazie mille per il chiarimento.
